Going to Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountain NP

The road from Pigeon Forge, TN to Cades Cove is pretty much what you see here = double yellow lines, 35 MPH, lots of hills and curves.  I'm not in a hurry - I'm retired.

You can see that the leaves have not started to turn yet.

That's why they call them the "smoky" mountains.

Here we are - Photo through Treky's dirty windshield.

More hills and curves...........

And a cute little tunnel - Treky says that he can clear this one easily.

National Park sign pointing to Cades Cove Visitor's Center.

Those are horses  but it is in fields like this that we may see wild life.

We took the Cades Cove Loop Road.  It's one lane, one way, 13 miles long and goes counter clockwise around the cove.  Those are more horses.  Treky says that it will take us about two hours to complete the 13 miles - lots of pull offs and bicycle riders will slow us down - Again, we're retired and not in a hurry.

More about the Cove tomorrow
