West Texas

West Texas Sunrise

Texas was once a country unto itself and is still different from the other 49 states.  West Texas is still yet more different.  They manufacture their own electricity from West Texas wind.

The highways are long, flat and straight.  You can go 50 miles without making a turn.  Treky warns that it's easy to go to sleep on these highways.

Occassionally there is a small  hill.

Treky says that West Texas rest areas are like no other - This one is just a gravel patch.

With a picnic table and some old dried up trees;  however, Tippy-Too says:

They serve their intended purpose just fine.

Also, there are hundreds of large mountains - most exceeded 6,000 feet in height.  These moutains in the distance are about 20 miles away from where I took the picture.  You can see forever in the clean dry air..

Tomorrow, we hit Big Bend National Park and Terlingua.

Ron, Tippy-Too and Treky
