North Carolina welcome centers are always nice - beautiful trees, etc.
Treky parks right in there with the little fellows.
As Treky heads North, you can see the North Carolina mountains in the distance.
North Carolina gas is not cheap but it's better than it was a year ago. Whatever it cost is what we will pay. The alternative is to stay at home. Nah....
Virginia used the slogan, "Virginia is for Lovers" on its license tags. This is their welcome center sign. Nice, Tippy thinks.
We see this sign in many states. When I was 11 years old, WWII started and my neighbors, who had family members serving in the Armed Forces, hung a banner in their window with a blue star on it. If that family member was killed, the banner star changed from blue to gold. That's what the sign is all about.
As we move northward, Virginia's mountains grow taller. Tippy, Treky and I agree that of all the states we have visited, we think that Virginia and West Virginia are among the most beautiful.
Isn't that a pretty sight? Treky likes a few mountains and curves - takes the monotony out of traveling.
Treky says, "See that structure at the end of the highway? That's the East River Tunnel. It connects Virginia and West Virginia."
Treky continues, "This is a better view. The tunnel is over a mile long. That's a long time to be underground but our team is fearless. I especially like the square top to the tunnel. Some tunnels have arch-way rounded tops. The square tops make it easier for me to stay in my lane without worrying about hitting the side and top of the tunnel."
WiFi permitting, we'll see you tomorrow.
